Shirley L. Scholes, 76, Brownstown

Shirley L. Scholes, 76, of Brownstown, died at 2:27 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Claggett Funeral Home in Brownstown, with Pee Wee Denton officiating. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery in rural St. Elmo. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesdasy at the funeral home. Memorials: St. John’s Prairie Heart Center Critical Care Unit or donor’s choice.

Mrs. Scholes was born on June 9, 1933, in Brownstown, the daughter of William Frederick and Margaret Maxine Miller Denning. She married Charles Herbert Scholes on Nov. 23, 1952; he died on Oct. 13, 2003.

She had been employed in the dietary department at Friendship Manor in St. Elmo for 25 years. She was affiliated with First Christian Church in Brownstown.

She is survived by daughters, Diana Scholes of Beecher City, and Dana and her husband Roy Rogers of Effingham; four grandson; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
