Dallas R. Chatham, 73, Brownstown

Dallas R. Chatham, 73, of Brownstown, died at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Liberty Christian Church in rural Brownstown, with Jim Dann officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery in rural Brownstown. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church. Claggett Funeral Home in Brownstown was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Shriners’ Hospital for Children, Liberty Christian Church or donor’s choice.

Mr. Chatham was born on Jan. 26, 1936, in Sefton Township in rural Brownstown, the son of Loren I. and Mabel Black Chatham. She married Beatrice Lotshaw.

He was retired from CIPS, and was a member of Liberty Christian Church, Temperance Lodge No. 16 A.F. & A.M. in Vandalia, Old National Trail Shrine Club of Vandalia and Ainad Temple.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Bryan Chatham and special friend Crystal Atwood of Vandalia, and Brent Chatham and his wife Nancy of Jacksonville; stepsons, Jimmy Brewer and his wife April of Altamont, and Scott Brewer and special friend Tasha Hames of Mulberry Grove; daughter, Cheryl Oertwig and special friend Jim Metzger of Shobonier; stepdaughters, Judy and her husband Speed Dilley of Brownstown, and Kelly and her husband Brian Robinson of Missouri; sister, Linda Bohle of Springfield; grandchildren, Lindsey Oertwig, Shane Oertwig, Shawn Oertwig and fiancée Jessica Menner, Blake Chatham and Nichole Chatham; and stepgrandchildren, Jacob Dilley, Skyler Garland, D.J. Brewer, Kolby Brewer, Jenny and her husband Ben Philpot, Halley Garland, Alissa Brewer, Mackenzie Brewer and Kaitlin Brewer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Darrel Chatham and Dale Chatham; and son-in-law, Merle Oertwig.
