Field of Dreams gets logo, begins fundraising campaign

Tuesday night the Field of Dreams committee held a brief meeting to discuss which area businesses it would approach for donations and sponsorships.

VCHS softball coach Brian Buscher handed out forms to give to businesses, detailing outfield wall signs that businesses can purchase at the cost of $300 a year and $200 for each additional year.

The signs will measure 4 feet by 4 feet and sponsors have the option of where they would like their sign to be placed at.

The group of only five members kicked around other various ideas including naming rights to the field. It has become a popular idea among the group over the past few meetings, but they have yet to figure out the terms.

The relatively good weather over the past week allowed the mud on the lower high school baseball diamond and the diamond at Kelly Park to dry out enough that the dirt that had been dumped there weeks ago could be spread out evenly on the fields. That wasa task that the committee needed to complete before winter arrived.

Next, several inches of limestone will be placed on top of the lower diamond to speed up drying after rain during the season. The committee is holding off on the limestone at this time, until more funds become available. Sand was also mixed in with the dirt at Kelly Park which will aid in quick drying.

Buscher unveiled the Field of Dreams logo. The logo is big step as now the committee can have letterhead made up and other informational sheets.

The committee had a minor setback as it was unable to get a meeting with the Vandalia Chamber of Commerce during December. It will now have to wait until February.

The group is also in the process of having a Web site set up. A basic layout has already been designed, but fine tuning is still need.

Between now and December’s monthly meeting, the committee is trying to set up accounts at area banks so that people can make donations from their local branch.

The next meeting will be held on Dec. 8 at First Presbyterian Church at 7 p.m.

At Tuesday night’s Field of Dreams meeting, coach Brian Buscher unveiled the committee’s logo. Across the top it reads, ‘Vanadlia Field of Dreams’ and says, ‘Catch the Vision. Live the Dream.’ at the bottom.
