Robert E. Miles, 52, Vandalia
Robert E. Miles, 52, of Vandalia, died Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct 8, at the funeral home with the Rev. Ward Sussenbach officiating. Burial was in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Masonic services were held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Vandalia Lodge No. 16. Memorials: Shriners’ Hospitals.
Mr. Miles was born on April 9, 1957 in Highland, the son of Gerald C. and Marjorie R. Miles. He married Alice Richards on April 16, 1983, in Vandalia.
He grew up in Bond County, attended kindergarten in Pocahontas, attended grade school in Central and Englis schools, and was a 1975 graduate of Greenville High School. He worked for the Greenville Spring Factory and for 20 years at Vandalia Correctional Center. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Vandalia and the AINAD Temple in St. Louis, Mo. He enjoyed fishing and working on cars.
He is survived by his wife; son, Mark Miles of Vandalia; daughter, Jamie Miles of Vandalia; mother; brother, David Miles of Greenville; and sisters, Brenda and her husband Roger Thiems of rural Greenville, Katherine and her husband Mike Reeves of Greenville; Joyce and her husband Tom File of Pocahontas, and Judy and her husband Jeff Barby of rural Pocahontas.
He is preceded in death by his father.
