Robert ‘Bob’ Funk, 82,Vandalia

Robert “Bob” Funk, 82, of Vandalia, died at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at the family residence.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia, with Rev. Olen Evans and Denny Hutchison officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia, with military rites accorded graveside by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post No. 95 of Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials: Brownstown First Baptist Church Steeple Fund or Fayette County Health Department Hospice.

Mr. Funk was born on July 7, 1927, in Vandalia, the son of Roy and Marie Atwood Funk. He married Una Telford Funk on Aug. 18, 1950, in Vandalia.

He was a retired assistant postmaster, was a member of First Baptist Church in Brownstown and Crawford-Hale American Legion Post No. 95 of Vandalia, and served in the Navy.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Carla and her husband Mike Mathews of Springfield, and their family, Michael and his wife Tracy Mathews and their children Sean and Maureen, Michelle Mathews and son Kendal, Kevin and his wife Heather Mathews and their daughter Addison, and Kory Mathews, and Melissa and her husband Dennis Hutchison; son, Rodney Funk of Bloomington; grandchildren, Denny and Sarah Hutchison; brother, Don Funk and his wife Ella of Vandalia; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Belinda Jo Funk; and son, Robert Brian Funk.
