Berl E. Austin, 75, Shobonier

Berl Emil Austin, 75, of Shobonier, died at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at Friendship Manor in St. Elmo.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in rural Brownstown at a later date. Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Austin was born on June 21, 1934, in Brownstown, the son of Herbert Edward and Fay Iona Hooker Austin. He was divorced.

He was a carpenter and a member of Mt. Carmel Untied Methodist Church in rural Brownstown. He served in the Illinois National Guard.

He is survived by brothers, Frank Austin of Brownstown, Stephen Austin of St. Elmo and Clyde Austin of St. Elmo; and sisters, Barbara Randall of Freeport and Kay Schukar of Shobonier.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
