Marie A. Smith, 97, Brownstown

Marie A. Smith, 97, of Brownstown, died at 6:04 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, at Fayette County Hospital and Long Term Care in Vandalia.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Claggett Funeral Home in Brownstown, with John Robinson and Jim Dann officiating. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery in rural Brownstown. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday and an hour before services on Wednesday, both at the funeral home. Memorials: Liberty Christian Church in rural Brownstown or donor’s choice.

Mrs. Smith was born on April 11, 1912, in Brownstown, the daughter of Charles Henry and Laura Mae Bauer Wasser. She married Guy C. Smith on May 30, 1930, in Salem; he died on March 25, 1999.

She was a retired homemaker and a member of Liberty Christian Church.

She is survived by daughters, Shirley Goldsborough of Brownstown, and Karen and her husband Delbert Miller of Brownstown; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Glenn Samuel Wasser and Earl Edwin Wasser; and sister, Mildred L. Wasser, in infancy.
