Goldie F. Diveley, 83, Vandalia

Goldie Faye Diveley, 83, of Vandalia, died at 4:05 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2009, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.

Services were to be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at First Pentecostal Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Daniel McDonald officiating. Burial was to be in Evans Cemetery in rural Vandalia. Visitation was to be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the church. Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: First Pentecostal Church in Vandalia.

Mrs. Diveley was born on Oct. 29, 1925, in Shobonier, the daughter of Elmer and Lydia Talbott Elliott. She married Chester E. Diveley on Dec. 13, 1945, in Vandalia; he died on June 28, 1976.

She was an inspector for John Crane Co. in Vandalia, and she helped manufacture B-24 bombers in Chicago during World War II. She was a member of First Pentecostal Church in Vandalia.

She is survived by sons, Larry Diveley and his wife Judy of Vandalia, Gary Diveley of Vandalia and Eddie Diveley of Vandalia; daughter, Doris and her husband Dean Ruff of Pinckneyville; stepson, Scotty Diveley and his wife Ada of Center Point, Iowa; stepdaughters, Glenda Hamblin of Vandalia, and Linda and her husband Rich Cohoon of Vandalia; stepdaughter-in-law, Rosetta Diveley of Vandalia; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; stepson, Gale Diveley; stepfather, Ben Zimmerman; brothers, Lawrence and Elbert; sister, Dorothy Cunnningham; and sister, Bertha Richards.
