Cearlock signs with Stephens College

Vandalia Community High School senior Shelby Cearlock signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., on Tuesday. Cearlock was the member of a VCHS girls squad that set a new single-season wins record, won the South Central Conference East Division for the first time, advanced to the Sweet Sixteen and finished with a 28-2 record. Cearlock won MVP honors as the Lady Vandals repeated as Mattoon Tournament champs, and she scored 1,174 points as a four-year starter. She was second team All-State in her senior year and first team All-South Central Conference 2007-09. She averaged 12 points, three rebounds and three assists per game in her senior season, and finished with a free-throw percentage of 72 percent.
