Roy Rush, Vandalia

Roy Richard Rush, 78, of Vandalia, died at 12:58 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at the family residence.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church in rural Vandalia, with his son, the Rev. Dan Rush, officiating. Burial with graveside services and military rites were at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church. Memorials: Bethel Baptist Church or donor’s choice.

 

Mr. Rush was born on July 17, 1931, in Tremont, the son of Raymond and Merle Slack Rush. He married Jacqulin Atchison on June 11, 1955, in Joliet.

 

He was a machinist at Caterpillar in Joliet for 30 years, a Navy veteran, a member and deacon emeritus at Bethel Baptist Church and a member of the Machinists Laborers’ Union.

 

He is survived by his wife; sons, Daniel Rush and his wife Kathy of Vandalia, Scott Rush and his wife Tami of Braidwood, and Michael Rush and his wife Denise of Vandalia; daughter, Melissa Johnson of Joliet; eight grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ralph Rush.
