Vodithe L. Reavis, 89, Vandalia
Vodithe L. Reavis, 89, of Vandalia, died at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, at the family residence.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Vandalia, with Dr. Roger Grimmett officiating. Burial was in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday and one hour before services on Wednesday, both at the church. Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Friendship Class at First United Methodist Church or donor’s choice.
Mrs. Reavis was born on Sept. 18, 1919, in Sefton Township, Fayette County, the daughter of John Franklin and Julia Mae Emert Diveley. She married Douglas L. Reavis on Nov. 1, 1958, in Vandalia; he died on Feb. 27, 1995.
Early in life, she was a baseball enthusiast and played on Johnson, Stephens and Shinkle Shoe Factory softball team. After their marriage, she and her husband were engaged in dairy and hog farming; in later years, they enjoyed traveling together until his illness.
She worked for Illinois Bell Telephone at Collinsville and Vandalia, and she also worked for a long time at Northside Motors, during which GMAC cited her for work proficiency, in that she never had an error in any of her work. She also worked in the Fayette County Clerk’s Office.
She was also an accountant for Boley Mobile Homes Sales and Service in Vandalia, and worked at a local law office. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was known to contribute her services for church musical programs and served as the Sunday school secretary for a number of years. She also gave up Sunday afternoons for about 15 years to play for church services at the Vandalia Correctional Center.
She is survived by sisters, Camilla I. Diveley of Vandalia, Genevieve Diveley of Vandalia and Beatrice Davis of Greenville.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and a sister, Bernice Scraper.
