Verna M. Cooter, 86, Vandalia

Verna Mae Cooter, 86, of Vandalia, died at 5:10 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at her home.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Joe Lawson officiating. Private burial will be at a later date. Memorials: First Baptist Church in Vandalia.

Ms. Cooter was born on Aug. 10, 1922, in Cherokee, Okla., the daughter of Charlie and Ethel Cottingham Cooter.

She was a retired employee of Crane Packing Co. in Vandalia, and a member of First Baptist Church in Vandalia.

She is survived by a sister, Mary Ruth Mathews of North Little Rock, Ark.; and nephews and a niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother and three sisters.
