Orville Eugene “Gene” Moreland, 81, of Ramsey, died at 6:35 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at his home.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Miller Funeral Home in Ramsey, with the Rev. Larry O’Dell officiating. Burial was in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, rural Ramsey, with military rites accorded by Anderson-Scroggins American Legion Post No. 460 of Ramsey. Visitation was held from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Moreland was born on Nov. 27, 1927, in Fayette County, the son of Jesse Lee and Edna E. Cole Moreland. He married Betty L. Leigh on July 23, 1966, in Ramsey.
He was a retired heavy equipment operator, was affiliated with the Baptist Church and was a member of Local No. 520 of Mitchell and Anderson-Scroggins American Legion Post No. 460 of Ramsey. He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Raymond Moreland and his wife Tara of Ramsey, and Roger Moreland and his wife Julie of Ramsey; two stepbrothers; two stepsisters; and grandchildren, Whitney, Faith, Leah, Adam and Kevin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Jennie; two brothers; three stepbrothers; four sisters; and two stepsisters.
