Freddy E. Miller, 76, Vandalia
Freddy E. Miller, 76, of Vandalia, died at 9:05 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at his home.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Ernest Flowers officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia, with military rites accorded. Visitation was to be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials: Fayette County Health Department Hospice, Vandalia.
Mr. Miller was born on March 18, 1932, in Vandalia, the son of Joseph C. and Mary Gertrude McGee Miller.
He was the retired owner and operator of Miller’s Trenching in Vandalia. He was a life member of Crawford-Hale American Legion Post No. 95 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Old Capitol Post No. 3862, both of Vandalia. He served in the Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by a son, Fred Miller Jr. and his wife Susan of Vandalia; daughters, Vicki and her husband Doug Hipsher of Manito, and Jody Blackwell and Jeff Slater of Vandalia; sisters, Irene Durbin of Vandalia, and Shirley and her husband Bill Rainey of Ramsey; companion, Alphalene “Alf” Nordyke of Vandalia; grandchildren, Sherry, Kristy, Freddy III, Chris, Bo, Lyndsey, Alex, Alexis, Clayton and Kyle; and five great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kristy; four brothers; and four sisters.
