Lora E. Torrence, 86, Patoka

Lora E. Torrence, 86, of Patoka, died on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Vandalia Rehabilitation Center in Vandalia.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Patoka United Methodist Church in Patoka, with the Rev. Clayton Coffey officiating. Burial was in South Hill Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. on Monday and from 8 a.m. until time of services, both at the church. Day Funeral Home in Patoka was in charge of the service. Memorials: Patoka United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Mrs. Torrence was born on Feb. 14, 1922, in Patoka, the daughter of Luther and Mabel Nattier Paine. She married Paul R. Torrence on July 8, 1939, in St. Charles, Mo.; he died on Oct. 31, 1983.

She lived her entire life in the Patoka area. She was a homemaker, and the bookkeeper for Torrence Dairy and Torrence Farm for most of her life. She was a member of Mound Chapel Church until its closing, and transferred her membership to the Patoka United Methodist Church. She served in many offices and on many committees of the church and on many associated groups of the church. She was active in the United Methodist Women. She was a member of Chapter 715 of Order of the Eastern Star of Sandoval, Fayette County Farm Bureau and Fayette County Home Extension Association. She enjoyed quilting, reading, listening to music, doing crossword puzzles and family gatherings.

She is survived by a son, Ranny Torrence and his wife Peggy of Ft. Worth, Texas; daughters, Nina Bliss of Patoka, and Paula and her husband Jim Padberg of Patoka; grandchildren, Kelsey and her husband Bob Larson of Bluford, Greg Torrence and his wife Susan of Littleton, Colo., Susan Torrence of Lincoln, Neb., Rick Torrence and his wife Janetta of Patoka, Randy Ostrom and his wife Diana of Greenville, Knute Ostrom of Lufkin, Texas, Dallas Ostrom of Keller, Texas, Dan Torrence and his wife Natalie of High Ridge, Mo., Mike Torrence and his wife Norma of Patoka, Jani Bucy of Springfield, Mo., Jimmy Padberg of Patoka, and Lora Lee and her husband Dale Pearce of Centralia; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Pat Torrence of Patoka; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Terry N. Torrence, on Oct. 17, 2006; brothers, Herbert Paine, on Feb. 4, 1992, Dale Paine, on Aug. 14, 1999, and Leland Paine, on Dec. 21, 1988; and sister, Lela Herrin, on June 22, 2008.
