Eldon Oscar ‘Cotton’ Rothe, 73, of Effingham and formerly of Watson and St. Peter, died at 6:10 p.m. on Friday, July 4, 2008, in his home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Peter, with the Rev. William Emrick officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Monday at Pagel Funeral Home in St. Peter and an hour before services on Tuesday at the church. Memorials: St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or St. Peter Area Cancer Support Group.
Mr. Rothe was born on April 17, 1935, in St. Peter, the son of Oscar and Verna VonBehren Rothe. He married Beverley Wasmuth on Jan. 1, 1955, at Augsburg.
He was the co-owner and operator of a Chevrolet and John Deere dealership in St. Peter and Farina for more than 30 years, and was also involved in farming. Prior to his retirement in 1997, he was also an over-the-road trucker for 10 years.
He is survived by his wife; son, Jay Rothe and his wife Kelly of St. Peter; daughters, Jody and her husband Keith Storck of St. Peter, and Jan Jameson of St. Peter; brother, Leon Rothe of Odin; and grandchildren, Katie and her husband Corey Lotz; Clint Storck, Scarlett Jameson, and Justy and Jaci Rothe.
She was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Keith Rothe; and son-in-law, Robert Jameson.
