Maurice D. Smith, 90, Vandalia
Maurice D. Smith, 90, of Vandalia, died at 2:10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Friendship Manor in St. Elmo.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. John McIntosh officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials: Alzheimers Association or First United Methodist Church of Vandalia.
Mr. Smith was born on Jan. 27, 1918, in Vandalia, the son of Achilles and Aleettie Locke Smith. He married Margaret Livesay in Vandalia on March 8, 1942.
He was retired from John Crane Inc. and also as a farmer. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Vandalia and Vandalia Moose Lodge No. 1447.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Judith Ann and her husband Roger Hagy of Washington, Ill., and Diane E. and her husband Gary Plum of Vandalia; grandchildren, Ty Hagy, Justin Hagy, Sasha Hagy Petterson, Megan Aukamp, Christina Harrelson, Charity Plum and husband Alberto Perez, and Sam Plum and his wife Trera; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Kenneth, Robert and Eugene Smith.
