Howard H. ‘Curly’ Barth, 80, of Shobonier, died at 4:20 a.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Daryl Bolen officiating. Burial with military rites accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post No. 95 of Vandalia was in McInturff Cemetery. Visitation was held an hour before services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials: American Heart Association or Second Chance Animal Rescue.
Mr. Barth was born on Jan. 27, 1928, in Tamalco, the son of Julius R. and Georgia Ann Heather Barth. He married Melba R. Cornish on Feb. 22, 1958, in Greenville; she died on Jan. 25, 2002.
He was a retired microwave technician for Marathon Oil Co., a World War II Army veteran and a member of Masonic Lodge No. 809 of Mulberry Grove.
He is survived by a son, Harley Barth of Bethalto; nieces, Lana Morgan of Vandalia and Jacqueline Barth of Florida; and nephews, Gail Barth of Bethalto and Steven Barth of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brothers, Jack and Kenneth.
