Elmer R. Porter, 87, of Chandler, Ariz., and formerly of Vandalia, died on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at Chandler, Ariz.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday at Fairlawn Cemetery, with Paul and Lori Exley officiating. Visitation was held an hour before services at Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia. Memorials: Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 and the Post 95 Avenue of Flags.
Mr. Porter was born on July 7, 1920, in Vandalia, the son of Reese Wilson and Waive Pruitt Porter. He married Idalene E. Kile on July 2, 2938, in St. Charles, Mo.; she died on Nov. 5, 1984.
He was a carpenter for Taylor Construction in Vandalia, and a member of First Presbyterian Church in East Alton, Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 in Vandalia, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3862 of Vandalia, Masonic Lodge No. 16 A.F. & A.M. on Vandalia and Eagles Club of Vandalia.
He is survived by daughters, Jeanna Tucker of Chandler, Ariz., and Schelley Howerton of Junction City, Calif.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
