Richard H. Bevill, 81, Mulberry Grove

Richard H. Bevill, 81, of Mulberry Grove, died on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at St. Lukes Hospital, Chesterfield, Mo.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Mulberry Grove Cemetery. Burial with military rites by Mulberry Grove American Legion Post No. 1180 were in Mulberry Grove Cemetery. Young Funeral Home in Greenville was in charge of arrangements.Memorials: Mulberry Grove American Legion Post No. 1180.

Mr. Bevill was born on Sept. 20, 1926, in Hannibal, Mo., the son of Burley and Mary Empfield Bevill. He married Luella King on March 27, 1948, in Madison.

He grew up in Alton and Madison, and served in the Navy in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. He went to work for Laclede Steel after the war and retired in 1977. He and his wife moved to Mulberry Grove in 1994. He was an avid outdoorsman.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Rebecca Scott of Maryville, Barbara Vrabec of Granite City, Cynthia Purkaple of Granite City, and Lisa Bevill of Madison; sister, Ruth Purrman of Greenville; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Burley Bevill, William Bevill and John Bevill; and sisters, Mary Sherman and Margaret Cook.
