Dollie Fern (Bissonett) Ropp, 96, of Vandalia, passed away on December 11, 2007, in her home, with her daughter by her side.
A memorial service to celebrate Fern’s life will be held at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia on Saturday, December 15, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be at the funeral home on December 15, 2007, from noon to 1:30 p.m., before the service.Memorials to First Baptist Church and/or Fayette County Health Department, both in Vandalia.
Fern Bissonett was born on July 23, 1911, in rural Dalton City, the oldest daughter of Sid and Lucy (Nihiser) Bissonett. She attended Macon schools and was a member of the first graduating class from the new Macon High School in 1931. She then attended and graduated from Brown’s Business School in Decatur. She moved to Vandalia and worked in the Johnson-Stephen-Shinkle Shoe Factory. She was also church secretary for the First Baptist Church for 33 years.
Fern married Abner N. Ropp on April 16, 1933. They celebrated 63 years of marriage, until his death in 1995.
Fern enjoyed working crossword puzzles, taking snapshots and reading. She loved spending time with her family and playing games.
Fern is survived by her daughter, Katherine Kay Johnson of Vandalia and son John and his wife Carol Ropp of Decatur; two grandsons, Charlie and his wife Nicole Ropp, and Jeff Ropp and his friend Maggi Lograsso; two great-granddaughters, Kate Bailey and Rebecca Allinder of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; great-great-granddaughters, Taralynn and Ashleigh; and her sister, Lela McDowell of Decatur.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Jean Jacques LeDuc; granddaughter, Brigitte Martin; two brothers; and two sisters.
