Benjamin Ayres Buzzard, 90, of St. Elmo, died at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at Friendship Manor in St. Elmo.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at First United Methodist Church in St. Elmo, with the Rev. Alice True officiating. Burial will be in Crums Chapel Cemetery, St. Elmo. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Claggett Funeral Home in Brownstown and one hour before services on Thursday. Mr. Buzzard was born on Jan. 19, 1917, in rural St. Elmo, the son of George Ayres and Mary Radcliff Buzzard. He married Bonnie Orr on Nov. 21, 1939; she died on Nov. 3, 1999.
He was a retired farmer, member of First United Methodist Church and St. Elmo Lions Club, and a past board member of the Fayette County Fair Association, Fayette County Farm Bureau, Southwestern Electric Cooperative and Production Credit Association.
He is survived by a son, Lyle and his wife Gloria Buzzard of St. Elmo; daughter, Linda and her husband Randy Wolf of St. Elmo; brother, Dale and his wife Carol Buzzard of Lewiston, Neb.; sister, Miriam Rondelli of Springfield; grandchildren, Dean and his wife Sandy Buzzard, Mindy and her husband Shane Healy, Karri Brown, Andra and her husband Luke Carson, Lucas Wolf and Heather Wolf; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sons, Ronald Ayres Buzzard and Gary Neil Buzzard; a brother; and two sisters.
