Toys for Tots drive under way

With the start of the Christmas season just around the corner, the Vandalia business that operates the Toys for Tots program each year is beginning to collect donations.

Arthur Young Inc., located at 122 W. Gallatin St. in Vandalia, is accepting donations of new or like-new toys and other items for children.

Donations that are received through the program are turned over to Fayette County Caring and Sharing and included in Christmas baskets for needy families in the county.

"We’re asking that local residents help us provide children in the county with a Merry Christmas," said Dennis Young of the dealership.

Master Gardeners to have window display

The local Master Gardeners will have a window display featuring the fruits of their labor during the Vandalia Main Street Programs Olde Tyme Christmas this Friday night.

The display, to be in the window of the former home of Andersons Jack of Diamonds, will include fall and Christmas arrangements, herbs and fresh produce. They will be selling those items.

VJHS student council collecting phones

The student council is participating in the Great Cell Phone Drive by accepting inactive cell phones.

Those wishing to donate phones should drop them office at the school office, 1011 W. Fletcher St.

Proceeds from the drive will go toward junior high playground improvements.
