This week’s Mystery Banks Photo: This picture, taken in November 1947, shows four young people from the Vandalia and Shafter areas. The one on the left is a retired farmer from Shafter. The second from the left is a retired farmer and realtor from Vandalia. The third from the left is from Shafter and is the mother of six children. And the fourth from the left is from Vandalia and is the mother of three girls.

1996 – The Vandalia City Council voted 6-1 to create the office of city administrator, with a job advertisement to go out later in the week.
Clem Schaal of St. Peter was recognized by the CEFS Economic Opportunity Corp. for his 10 years of service on the board.
A renovation to the front entrance of Fayette County Hospital was moved up to the first phase of the construction and renovation project at FCH.
Wayne and Aileen Schmitt of Vandalia were planning to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

The Vandalia wrestling team captured the title of the Civic Memorial Tournament for the second straight year.
Everett and Paula Sasse were planning to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, and Forrest “Shaner” and Cleta Lutz of Mulberry Grove were celebrating their 65th anniversary.
