Vandals score 59 in improving to 3-1

Vandalia’s Brody Roberts (51) snares the jersey of the North Mac quarterback and teammate Jacob Johnson (10) is ready to assist complete the first half sack.
The Vandals scored on their first play from scrimmage for the second time this season, and held off a stubborn North Mac squad to improve to 3-1 on the season.

Leading 35-20 after three quarters, Vandalia outscored North Mac in the final stanza to record a 59-34 win.
Quarterback Andrew Kelly again led the offense attack with four rushing touchdowns and three more through the air.
Kelly ran for 133 yards and Jay Keck added 105 yards, with 48 yards coming on a fourth quarter touchdown.
Kelly connected with Jacob Johnson for two scores and with Kohnor Depew for another.
The Vandals’ defense recorded three sacks, and Brody Roberts, Johnson, Carson Lotz and Landon Christian led with four solo tackles each.
“I thought we threw the ball extremely well tonight,” Vandals coach Jason Clay said.
“If people are going to pack the box and try to take away the run, then we’ll throw it,” he said.
“Andrew had several nice completions on rollouts, some screens, we had the long pass to Kohnor and Jacob got a couple of touchdowns,” Clay said.
“We just try to be multi-dimensional, and people are going to obviously sit on 4 (Kelly), but he still did his thing, and when he has the ball on his hands, he’s dangerous,” he said.

Vandalia’s defense converges on the North Mac running back in the first half of Friday’s win. Jordan Colburn (22) and Jacob Johnson (10) move on to help Andrew Kelly with the tackle.
“They made some plays and we gave up some touchdowns, but we kept scoring.
“We had a few mistakes here and there, but we got some key stops in the second half.
“The kids played their hearts out,” Clay said.
