SCJH girls softball advances to state

The South Central Junior High School girls softball team has advanced to the state finals.

The Lady Falcons, now 18-2, will now face Pontiac St. Mary’s, 24-1, on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Champions Fields in Normal.

South Central made it to the Elite Eight in Class 1A after capturing the regional and sectional titles in the past week.

In the regional championship, South Central defeated Effingham St. Anthony, 5-3, on their home diamond.

Maddie Peddicord struck out 16 batters in tossing a no-hitter.

In the sectional championship at St. Elmo on Sunday, SCJHS edged Paris Crestwood, 2-0, as Peddicord struck out 15 batters and allowed just one hit.

South Central also was held to just one hit, a single by Kennah Hiestand. Peddicord had the team’s lone RBI.
