Ervin Garrison, 88, of Brownstown, died at 1:10 p.m., Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at First Christian Church in Brownstown, with Lloyd Dunaway (a long-time friend of Ervin’s) officiating. Burial will follow at Griffith Cemetery in rural Brownstown, with military rites by VFW Post 9770 of Brownstown and Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorials: First Christian Church Building Fund or Brownstown First Responders. Ervin G. Garrison was born on Sunday, Oct. 22, 1933, in St. Elmo, to Otha and Fern (Morris) Garrison. He married Joyce K. Craig on May 17, 1953 and she survives.
He was a member and past deacon of the First Christian Church in Brownstown. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He was retired from construction and concrete work out of Carpenters Local 634, and also retired from farming. He was a former Brownstown school board member. Ervin was a perfectionist in anything he did, especially carpentry and concrete work. He adored his grandchildren and each one held a special place in his heart.
In addition to his wife of over 68 years, Joyce, he is survived by his son, Kenneth (Marsha) Garrison of Brownstown; daughter, Melinda Winters of Brownstown; sister, Ljean Rush of Vandalia; brother, Robert (Ruth Ann) Garrison of Vandalia; grandchildren, Jason Garrison, Jeff (Paige) Garrison, Lindsey (Dustin) Pruett, and Jared (Lexi) Winters; great-grandchildren, Gracie Pruett, Rylin Pruett, Hudson Winters and one on the way. Also survived by several nieces and nephews who loved and thought the world of him.
Ervin was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Terry Winters; brother, Samuel (Imogene) Garrison; and brother-in-law, Raymond Rush.
