Virginia A. Bolyard, 97, of Shobonier, passed away Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, at her home in Shobonier.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 23, 2021, at Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, with Pastor Harry Kirk officiating. Burial will follow at Bolyard Cemetery, rural Ramsey. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 23, 2021, one1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Bolyard Cemetery, rural Ramsey, and/or Residential Hospice. Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, is in charge of arrangements. She was born July 22, 1924, in Wills County, the daughter of Carl Waller and Virginia Harrison (Boyer) Pritchett. She married John Leroy Bolyard Sr. on October 6, 1943, St. Louis, MO; he passed away November 8, 1984. She was a retired CNA-Fayette Co. Hosp., and former Cook and housekeeper at Robbins Restaurant; member of First Pentecostal Church, Vandalia. Virginia enjoyed canning, puzzle books, stitching and spending time with her family.
She is survived by sons, James “Jim” Bolyard, Kansas City, KS, Carl Bolyard and Pat, Ramsey, Bobby Bolyard, Decatur, and Steve Bolyard and Terry, Ramsey; daughters, Ann Haston, Effingham, Pat Cunningham and Bert, Beecher City, Karen Rhoades and Robert Jr., Ramsey, Diane Wollin and Earl, Shobonier, Mary Shellanbarger and Margaret Hedgpeth and Jim, all of Vandalia; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Johnny Leroy Jr.; daughter, Virginia Elam; brothers, Hershel and Carl Pritchett; granddaughter, Chris Meyers; four great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Terry Shellanbarger, and daughter-in-law, Chris Bolyard.
