Catherine ‘Cathy’ Cecelia Tappan 79, of Altamont

Catherine ‘Cathy’ Cecelia Tappan 79, of Altamont passed away peacefully Friday evening Nov. 26, 2021 at 10:04 p.m. at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

Visitation for family and friends will be conducted from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021 at Kull Funeral Chapel, Altamont.

Christian Burial Rites will be conducted at a later date by family and friends on the family farm.

Cathy was born into the family one of three children to Thomas Reginal and Marian Cecelia Phelps-Murray. She was born on November 13, 1942 in Washington D.C. Cathy graduated from Catholic High School and continued her education at St Agnus School of Nursing, Baltimore. Over the years of her nursing career Cathy was employed by St Agnus in Baltimore, Lakeland General in Florida and HSHS St. Anthony Memorial Hospital, Effingham, Illinois as a floor nurse.

Cathy married Edwin Charles Tappan on November 23, 1963 at the St. James Cathedral in Mount Rainier, Maryland. They moved to Lakeland Florida in 1964 and then moved to Altamont in 1968. She spent her life in the local area as a home maker and raised a family of 4 children. She loved all her children and grandchildren beyond measure. She especially enjoyed watching her children in athletic events and personal endeavors.

Cathy is survived by her husband Edwin Charles Tappan in Altamont; sons and daughters-in-law Chris and Kellie of Thompsonville, and Tom and Jessica of Altamont; eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, and a brother Robert ‘Bob’ R. (wife Dottie) Murray of Sebalissville, MD.

Cathy was preceded by her parents, a sister, Jeanne Madarang; son, Michael Sean Tappan daughter, Jill Renee Tappan-Weathers, and a grandson, Guy Louis Tappan.
