John P. VanUytven, 87, Oconee

John P. VanUytven, 87, of Oconee, died on Friday, July 1, 2011, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oconee, with the Rev. Joseph Havrilka officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Oconee. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at McCracken-Dean Funeral Home in Pana, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Memorials: Shriners’ Hospital for Children, 2001 S. Mr. VanUytven was born on June 22, 1924, in Oconee, the son of Louis and Anna Schmitz VanUytven. He married Donna Carter on April 7, 1951, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oconee.

He is survived by his wife; and children, Rita and her husband Nick Scales of Decatur, Paul VanUytven of Shobonier, Elaine Heimgartner of Benton, Mike VanUytven of Herrick, Ruth Holliday of Vandalia, Janet and her husband Larry Werden of Ashmore, Susan and her husband Gary Miller of Ramsey, Steve VanUytven and his wife Christy of Oconee, and Dan VanUytven and his wife Patti of Ramsey.
