Steven O. Koehler Sr., 58, Rural Beecher City

Steven Otis Koehler Sr., 58, of rural Beecher City, passed away at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, in his home.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Kaskaskia Church, located at County Roads 6 and 2700 North, with the Rev. Ken Fookes officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Monday, both at the church. C & A Pagel Funeral Home in St. Elmo was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Kaskaskia Church or St. Elmo Cub Scouts Pack 444.

Mr. Koehler was born on May 19, 1953, in Springfield, the son of John Norman and Melba Ann Wyzard Koehler. He married Darlene Daugherty on Sept. 11, 1982, in Springfield.

He was a 1971 graduate of Lanphier High School in Springfield. He served stateside with the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He retired from Pillsbury in Murfreesboro, Tenn. He owned and operated Savannah’s Antique Mall in Altamont, and was currently serving as the Emergency Management Agency coordinator for Fayette County. While living in Tennessee, he was a very active Scout leader in the Trail of Tears Council. He was a member and past master of St. Elmo Masonic Lodge No. 769, and a member of Altamont Masonic Lodge No. 533 and St. Elmo American Legion Post 420.

He is survived by his father, of Quincy; wife; sons, Steven Koehler Jr. and his wife Shannon, and granddaughter Savannah of R.A.F. Lakenheath near Brandon, United Kingdom, Scott Koehler and companion Holly Haynes of Hendersonville, N.C., and Matthew Koehler and his wife Erin, and granddaughter Sydney of Watson; brother, Brad Koehler and his wife Brenda of West Liberty; nephew, Jason Koehler and his wife Alliscia of Macon; nieces, Amanda and her husband Craig Glos of Joliet, and Cassandra and her husband Shane Kurpiel of Sainte Marie; stepbrothers, Dana Myers and his wife Annie of Quincy, and Steve Myers and his wife Julie of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.; stepsister, Rebecca and her husband Randy Goerlich of Tucson, Ariz.; mother-in-law, Ida Daugherty of Ramsey; and brother-in-law, Rich Daugherty and his wife Lynn of Ramsey.

He was preceded in death by his mother; stepmother, Betty; grandparents; and father-in-law, Richard Daugherty.
