Tourist Center on summer schedule
The Vandalia Tourist Information Center, which houses the Vandalia Chamber of Commerce, is now operating under its summer schedule.
The center, located at 1408 N. Fifth St., is now open on weekends – from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Saturdays and from 1-4:30 p.m. on Sundays.
As usual, the center is open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekdays.
Summer hours run from Memorial Day weekend through Sept. 30.

Vandalia Idol schedule changed
Because of conflicts in the community, Soroptimist International of Vandalia has changed the schedule for the Vandalia Idol competition.
The audition and finale will now be held on one night, Saturday, June 30. The program will begin at 6 p.m.
Twelve individuals have registered for this year’s competition. Four competitors will advance to the final round of competition.
The judges for this year’s Vandalia Idol are Catherine Burgess, Nancy Childress and Scott Gercken.
Evans Library has summer program
Evans Public Library and McDonald’s of Vandalia are inviting local children in kindergarten through sixth grade to participate in the summer reading program at the library, “Reading is a Thrill.”
The library also has a reading program for teens, “Reading is So Delicious."

Special library program on Tuesday
A special program for children will be held in the city parking lot at Fifth and Johnson streets as part of the summer reading program at Evans Public Library in Vandalia.
“Circus Fun – Games with the Library Staff” will be held at 10 a.m. next Tuesday.
