Police investigate second robbery

For the second time in about seven weeks, a Vandalia convenience store has been robbed at gunpoint.
Vandalia Police Chief Jeff Ray said that city officers were called to the Circle K station at 127 W. Gallatin St. at about 3 a.m. on Saturday for a report of an armed robbery.
According to Ray, a male entered the store and displayed a handgun to a Circle K employee and demanded money. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect, who was seen going north on Second Street following the robbery, is described as a white male with a thin build and light complexion.
Saturday’s armed robbery came as Vandalia Police continued to investigate an armed robbery on the evening of Wednesday, May 8, at the Phillips 66 station at Kennedy Boulevard and Fletcher Street.
In that incident, the suspect also displayed a handgun and demanded money from an attendant, fleeing from scene on foot.
At this time, police do not believe that the two armed robberies are related, Ray said on Monday.
Anyone with information about either of the robberies is asked to call police, 283-0556.
