Vandals lose to Pana in double overtime
Vandalia led Pana for three quarters of Tuesday’s non-conference matchup in Pana, but the Panthers sent the game into overtime with a basket at the end of regulation.
Both Vandalia and Pana scored seven points at the end of the overtime period, sending into a second overtime, and Pana outscored the Vandals 7-2 in that four-minute OT to win 57-50.
Nathan Casey connected on seven of nine from two-point range and also hit two three-pointers to lead the Vandals with 23 points.
Blake Morrison, filling in for Marcus Zimmerman, who was sitting out due to an illness, added 11 points for Vandalia.
Pana’s defense held the Vandals’ Richie Well scoreless.

The Vandalia JV squad defeated Pana, 74-70.
The JV Vandals were led by Blake Barth, with 17 points. Also in double figures were Bryce Dunn and Scott Shulman, with 13 each, and Thomas Ritchey, with 12.
Jacob Truitt scored eight points, Ethan Ferguson had seven, and Trevor Smalls had four.
Last Thursday, the Vandals ended their inaugural appearance in the Morrisonville Tournament with a 4-1 record, tying them for first place with Nokomis and Raymond Lincolnwood.
Vandalia picked up its third win last Thursday by defeating Edinburg, 85-45.
In the Vandals’ final game of the tourney, Nathan Casey scored 21 and Richie Well 20 to lead the Vandals. Casey and Well were named to the all-tournament team.
