Rotary/Red Cross Blood Drive sees Type O donations rise
The July 8th Rotary/Red Cross Blood Drive was a great time even though they set a goal that we obviously wouldn’t reach. Give me a break! Where did 85 come from? Used to be, goals were reasonable. In just our own uneducated minds, we knew that 85 was out of the question. Oh well, we had a good time anyway. And we always do the best we can.
The Drive started out strong and steady before we hit the mid afternoon siesta time. It was really slow, and if you want to know the best time to donate without a wait, it’s mid afternoon.
On the good side, lots of our regular donors showed up. We had six double reds for 12 units there. The big news was that the Type O donors were responsible for more than a third of the total units in July. Type O is the most needed blood because Type O is referred to as the Universal Donor, meaning if they don’t have your exact type, Type O comes to the rescue.
Overall, it was a good day even though we didn’t reach that absurd goal and had six deferrrals for various reasons. In the end, we did have a total of 66 units! That’s darn near 70, which is our go to goal on a regular basis. And we also got to give away these neat Goodr brand Red Cross sunglasses to all donors!
Next Rotary Red Cross Blood Drive will be held on Sept. 9th. Same time, same place! Come on down and see us.
