Library Board Holds Annual Meeting
On June 12 the Greenville Public Library board held their annual meeting. At the beginning of the meeting the minutes of the May 8, 2025 board meeting, the May 6, 2025 Library Materials Committee Meeting, and the June 6, 2025 Finance Committee Meeting.
The bills for the month of May 2025 were approved.
The Library board voted to raise the cost of non-residents to $45, for new or re-newing patrons, beginning July 1, 2025. The fee had been $40 since 2013.
It was decided at the last monthly meeting the board members agreed that the current officers would stay in their positions, and the committee assignments would remain the same.
During her monthly report Head Librarian Christal Valentin stated that just over 1,400 people came to the library in May. Valentin also reported that last fiscal year around 20,000 people had visited the library.
The Finance Committee met on June 6, and discussed the future of the Old Greenville Advocate Building, located on 2nd St. in Greenville. The building was purchased by the Library, back in January of 2025. The recommendation from the finance committee to the full board was that the building should be demolished. After a discussion the board decided to table the recommendation of the Finance Committee, until the members an opportunity to see if a renter could be found for the building, or if there would be a benefit of keeping the building intact and connecting the new building to it. For now the board did vote to pay the taxes, and will revisit the recommendation of the Finance Committee.
The next meeting will be on July 10, 2025 at 4 p.m. in The Greenville Public Library.
