Update on Investigation of accident on I-70 WB

Bond County Coroner Anthony R. Brooks is reporting that an investigation continues by the Illinois State Police and the Bond County Coroner’s Office into an accident involving a death. The location of the accident was on Interstate 70 westbound at the 45-mile marker  in rural Greenville, Illinois

The Decedent, identified as:

Bryan James Schuetz

Pittsburgh, PA

Male / White / 38 years of age

The decedent was pronounced dead at 3:27 am on Monday, June 9, 2025, at HSHS Holy Family Hospital Emergency Room. Mr. Schuetz was a patient being transferred by ambulance to a hospital in St. Louis from another hospital.  The ambulance driver reports that the patient became combative in the back of the ambulance, so he pulled to the side of the road to go assist the medic. 

The ambulance driver reports that the patient had exited out of the ambulance. The ambulance driver reports that the patient went out into the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 and was struck by a semi-truck. The cause and manner of death are pending autopsy and further investigation.
