Audiologist Miller Joins SBL Fayette County Hospital

Audiology care is now available at Sarah Bush Lincoln Fayette County Hospital, as Audiologist Gabrielle Miller, AuD, is here to help people with hearing problems.

Dr. Miller is available to care for people of all ages who suffer from hearing loss, and she can assist anyone who utilizes hearing aids.

“I’m here to serve the community and provide quality care,” Dr. Miller said. “Hearing problems are very common, and my goal is to help people in whatever way necessary so they can rely on their sense of hearing.”

Dr. Miller grew up in Jasper County and graduated from Newton Community High School. Upon graduating, she enrolled at Indiana University and earned a degree in communication sciences and disorders with a concentration in audiology. Following that, she received her doctorate of audiology from the University of Cincinnati.

During her undergraduate studies, she started as a speech pathology major, but she took an intro to audiology course and knew that was the path she wanted to travel. “I didn’t really know what audiology was at that time, but the course opened my eyes to a profession that was needed broadly,” Dr. Miller explained.

After schooling, Dr. Miller spent a year at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital in Columbia, Missouri as an extern. After moving around to bigger cities for school and training, she is excited to practice closer to home at SBL FCH. “My time in those places was enlightening and terrific for the experiences, but it’s nice to be closer to my home town. I’m already seeing some familiar faces,” she said.

Anyone struggling with hearing issues can see Dr. Miller for an evaluation. “An evaluation will help me determine what steps are necessary for each person’s care,” she explained.

Dr. Miller is able to help fit people for hearing aids and assist in any fine tuning that may be required. She can also analyze evaluation results and refer people who may need cochlear implants or further care.

“The ability to hear can impact people in so many aspects of their lives,” Dr. Miller said. “I’m there to have a conversation with people about their options, and I want to be that trusted voice for the community.”

Because loss of hearing is often a gradual thing, Dr. Miller encourages anyone who experiences it to seek help sooner rather than later. “Addressing it sooner can avoid a situation where lack of hearing can negatively affect your life in worse ways,” she said.

She also advises everyone to take certain precautions to protect their hearing, like wearing hearing protection when they are exposed to loud environments.

Dr. Miller practices on the second floor of SBL Fayette County Hospital from 8 am to 4 pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
