Celebrating My Mom on Mother’s Day

When I think about all the things my mom has done for my family, it is only right to honor her in print.
Raising two children while also taking care of my grandparents showed me what it meant to be dedicated to ones family. With my dad working, my mom made sure we had our uniforms for school, made sure we had our homework done, that we had our lunches for school and dinner ready when we got home, taking me to baseball, basketball, soccer practices while also being a den mom for scouts. All that as well as helping my grandparents make their numerous doctor appointments, picking up prescriptions, making sure their bills were paid and doing all that while showing all of the love and care a mom could give. She would know what needed to be done and get it done. I think that is where I get my persistence to get things done. She instilled a diligence in me that I use to this day. In my eyes she was a super mom.
I remember sitting at the kitchen counter at our house in Chicago watching my mom cook stir fry, baked chicken, beef stew, steaks in the broiler, homemade pancakes, waffles and then seeing her bake for the holidays, christenings, first communions, bake sales. She taught me so much like helping others, showing respect to everyone, to stand up for myself and my beliefs. I get my personality from my mom, to think of others before yourself. To make sure you set a good example and to not embarrass your family name.
When my dad got sick, I saw my mom, with her grief in hand, take charge and stay strong for my brother and I. Then when he passed, even though she was grief stricken, she was able to give my brother and I a shoulder to lean on and to give us somewhere where we could find solace.
My mother has always been there for me, in good and in bad, she has been a guiding light for me and my brother. A lot of people say this but it is the truth for me, I have the best mom!
Happy Mother’s Day Mom!
Love,
Anthony
