She emphasized that CRC is the fourth most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths. One in 24 individuals will be diagnosed with CRC. However, with proper screening, CRC can be prevented and is highly treatable when detected early.
Screening is recommended for anyone age 45 and older. There are both non-invasive screening options (such as biomarker DNA tests) and an invasive screening option (colonoscopy) for those who are at high risk or have a family history of CRC.
SBL Fayette County Hospital will be hosting a free CRC screening day on March 29, 2025, from 8 A.M. to 12 P.M. Participants can either use the drive-thru at the hospital’s main entrance or pick up a test kit at Rural King in Vandalia. Samples can be returned to the hospital, and results will be sent directly to each individual.
This is just one of the many ways SBL Fayette County Hospital is committed to supporting the health and wellness of our community!
