HS BOYS BASKETBALL
A 75-foot basket at the buzzer for a potential win against Salem was nullified by a plan to set up a winning basket.
Vandalia and Salem were tied with 1 second left in regulation when Kaedon Bevolo was fouled. He made the first free throw, but missed the second.
The Vandals’ Andrew Casey grabbed the rebound and threw up a shot from the opponent’s free-throw line.
Vandalia was prepared to call a timeout to set up a game-winning shot after the second free throw. A timeout with .08 of a second came as Casey readied to throw up his shot.
The effort to throw the ball in and get off a shot was then defeated by Salem defenders, giving the Wildcats a 57-56 win.
