Leon Keith Hulskotter, 71, Smithboro
Leon Keith Hulskotter, 71, of Smithboro, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Greenville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Greenville.
Leon was born June 23, 1953, in Vandalia, the son of Herbert and Gertrude (Oertwig) Hulskotter. Leon is remembered for his strong work ethic, his love for his family and as a friendly, outgoing person.
A proud graduate of Vandalia High School class of 1971, he completed his studies and went on to serve in the United States Air Force from 1972 – 1976, during which time he had the opportunity to serve in Spain. After returning home, Leon settled into a career at Carlisle Syntec, where he worked for 35 years.
He was a devoted father to his son, Ryan, and daughter, Audri, and though he later divorced his wife, Kathy, they shared many cherished memories. Beyond his professional life, Leon found great joy in cultivating his garden and greenhouse, growing an array of fruits and vegetables that he loved to share. His passion for the land was a testament to his upbringing in the country.
He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Gertrude, and brother, Larry Hulskotter.
Leon is survived by his children, son, Ryan Hulskotter of Greenville, daughter, Audri Hulskotter of Vandalia; siblings, Linda (Don) Seagrest and Kevin (Sandy) Hulskotter; sister-in-law, Judy Hulskotter.
The family will be holding a Celebration of Life, Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Grace Fellowship Church, 303 E. Cedar St., Fillmore, Il., 62032. Rev. Myron Kirk will officiate. Family and friends are invited to a potluck meal, following the service.
