August W. ‘Augie’ Dothager, 91, Quincy
August W. ‘Augie’ Dothager, 91, of Quincy, Illinois, formerly of Mulberry Grove, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024, in Blessing Hospital, Quincy, Illinois, surrounded by loving family.
Augie was born December 13, 1932, in Pittsburg, Fayette County, Illinois, the son of Herman and Effie (Moore) Dothager. He married Marilyn Sue Spires on November 10, 1957, in Ramsey, Illinois. They were married for 42 blessed years, before she preceded him in death on November 11, 1999.
Augie grew up farming in the rural Pittsburg area; and during his life, he worked many jobs, and various places, such as McDonnell Douglas, St. Louis, Alton Boxboard, Highland, and at Utlaut Memorial Hospital & Fair Oaks Nursing Home, Greenville, from which he retired, as a maintenance worker, in 1987.
Augie loved helping people. Though he wouldn’t preach at anyone, what he wanted most was for them to know Jesus, as their Savior. He also loved spending time building sheds, working on tractors, and restoring his antique sawmills. If there was a will, there was a way, and Augie would get the job done.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Mulberry Grove, Illinois and served as the door greeter and the Kids Ark Helper, an honorably discharged Army veteran who entering the service near the end of the Korean Conflict and served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army, stationed mostly in Germany, during his years of service from 1953-1955, a proud member of the American Legion Post #1180, of Mulberry Grove, and an Illinois Campers on Mission member.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; siblings, Lester (Marie) Dothager
Chester (Maxine) Dothager, Homer (Evelyn) Dothager, Wilbert (Jaynece) Dothager, Otis (Imogene) Dothager, Robert (Myrtle Mae) Dothager, Herbert Dothager, Elaine (Pete) Choma, Evelyn (Norman) Lawler; and brother-in-law, Marvin Freeman.
Surviving Augie are his daughters, Terry (Jerry) File, Pocahontas, Belinda (Roger) Bowman, Altamont, Julie (Scott) Andresen, Hannibal, Missouri; grandchildren, Jerad (Amy) File, Mulberry Grove, Erin (Justin) Church, Pocahontas, Erica Bowman, Altamont, John (Kristyn) Bowman, Effingham; great grandchildren, Ethan Largent, Adie, Amanda and Joshua File, Mindy, Shelby and Ravyn Bowman, Callan and Caden Bowman; and sister, Erma Freeman of Mulberry Grove; and many extended family and friends.
Funeral was held Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the church, with Rev. Jerad File and Rev. Doug Bell, officiating.
Burial followed the funeral service at Noffsinger Cemetery, with Mulberry Grove American Legion Post #1180 providing military honors.
The family asks that donations be made to the First Baptist Church in lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts.
