McCall fifth at state golf tourney

Vandalia’s Conner McCall finished fifth at the IHSA Class 1A State Golf Tournament.

McCall shot a 1-under-par 71 in the first round and a 5-over 77 in the second round at the Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington.

His 148 total was five strokes off the winning total of 143 posted by Thomas Hereau of River Ridge.

Beau Eftink of Quincy Notre Dame, Liam Lodding of Harvest Christian Academy and Trey Boecker of Grant Park tied for second with 145 scores.

McCall advanced to the state tournament by tying for first at the Waterloo Sectional with a 71 and losing on the second round of a sudden-death playoff.

He placed second at the Regional Tournanent held at Spencer T. Olin Course in Alton with a 73.
