McCall headed to state golf tourney

Vandalia’s Conner McCall is advancing to the IHSA Boys Golf State Tournament, tying for the low score at the sectional tournament and placing second after a two-hole sudden death playoff.

McCall posted a 71 to tie Parker Boehne of Christ Our Rock Lutheran for the top score, and Boehne prevailed in the playoff.
Vandalia’s Jonah Beesley missed advancing to the state tournament by two strokes, firing a 74 at the Acorns Golf Course in Waterlook.

Ramsey’s Gunner Finley also advanced to the sectional tournament and shot an 80.

On the girls side, the four area girls competing at the sectional tournament failed to advance to state.

Abby Tate of Vandalia led the group of area contestants with a 106 at Lakeshore Golf Course in Taylorville.

Coree Keagy of Ramsey was one shot behind with a 107, and Dakira Brown and Sophia McNealy of Vandalia posted scores of 109 and 120, respectively.

Seven area golfers advanced to IHSA sectionals this week.
On the boys side, Vandalia’s Conner McCall and Jonah Beesley finished second and third at the IHSA Regional held at Spencer T. Olin Course in Alton.
McCall shot a 73, two strokes behind regional winner Ryan Suhre of Metro-East Lutheran, and Beesley fired a 74.
Ramsey’s Gunner Finley also advanced to the sectional tournament with a round of 83.
The Vandalia boys finished in sixth place with a 345 team score, and Ramsey was ninth with 387.
Metro-East Lutheran won the Alton Regional with a 318 score.
The area boys advanced to the sectional tournament at Acorns in Waterlook.
On the girls side, Coree Keagy of Ramsey led area golfers with a 96 at the regional held at Effingham Country Club.
Joining her at the Lakeshore Golf Course in Taylorville for the sectional tournament were Vandalia’s Abby Tate (105), Sophia McNealy (109) and Dakira Brown (114).
The Vandalia girls placed fifth with a 464 team score, and Ramsey was seventh with a 521 total.
Salem won the Effingham St. Anthony Regional with a 344 score.
