Norman L. Lankow, 87, of Vandalia, IL, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 06, 2023 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Vandalia with Pastor Michael Mohr officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, from 10:00-11:00 AM, at the church. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or the Family YMCA of Fayette County. Norman Leroy Lankow was born on March 15, 1936 in Stewardson, IL, the son of Robert & Mable (Mietzner) Lankow. He married Jacqueline “Jackie” Savage in January of 1982. Together, they celebrated 35 years of marriage before her passing on November 29, 2017.

Norman was a proud United States Air Force Veteran; serving our country from June of 1954 – December of 1957. For 37 years, he was a technician for AT&T and was a flight instructor at the Vandalia Airport from 1966-1982.

Norman was a was a faithful member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, member of the Stewardson American Legion Post # 0611 for 39 years, and member of Keyesport KVS Club Inc; where he loved to spend time on the shooting range. Norman was also a devout member of the YMCA; most recently playing racquetball with his many friends.

Mr. Lankow is survived by his son, Aaron Lankow and wife Melanie; daughter, Sally Heather; step-son, David Greer and wife Melody; step-daughter, Vickey and husband Mike Culpepper; brothers, Terry Lankow and wife Linda and Gene Lankow; grandchildren, Matthew Lankow, Emily Lankow and husband Kiefer Stone, Andrea and husband Chris Wittry, and Shai and husband Byron Mitchamore; great-grandchildren, Andrew Wittry and wife Hope, Austin Wittry and wife Kaegan, Christopher Wittry, and Zachary Mitchamore; great great-grandchildren, Parker Wittry and Kylie Wittry; many nieces and nephews.

He was in death by his wife; brother, Daryl Lankow; and a sister, Sandra Naab.
