Fatal camper fire reported near Bluff City on Sunday morning

Authorities are investigating a fatal fire that happened over the weekend.

According to Fayette County Coroner Dave Harris, the office was dispatched to a camper near Bluff City early Sunday morning. Fayette County Chief Deputy Tony pronounced an unknown individual deceased at 6:03 a.m. The Vandalia Fire Department was also present at the scene.

Harris said in a release that an autopsy is scheduled to be performed on Monday at the Champaign County Morgue “to confirm the positive identity of the victim.”

The investigation is ongoing. Other reporting agencies include the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and the State Fire Marshall.
