Three wrestlers bring home medals

Three Vandalia wrestlers continued the Vandals’ tradition of bringing home medals from the IHSA Individual State Wrestling Tournament.

Freshman Dillon Hinton brought home a fifth-place medal at 132 pounds.

Senior Owen Miller placed fourth at 138 pounds.

Also competing at the individual state wrestling tournament last week at State Farm Center in Champaign were Logan Nance at 152 pounds and Wyatt Dothager at 195 pounds.

• Dillon Hinton, 132 pounds – Won by decision over Marques Merida of Harvard, 11-6; won by decision over Ian O’Connor of Illini Bluff; lost to Phoenix Blakely of Dakota; lost to Wyatt Doty of Polo in the semifinal round of wrestlebacks, 9-2.

• Owen Miller, 138 pounds – Won by decision over Jeremy Eggleston of Reed Custer, 5-4; won by decision over Jackson Carroll of Illini Bluff, 3-1; lost to Mason Tieffel of Benton by fall, 2:29; won by decision over Jason Bowers of Dakota; lost to Dresden Grimm of Auburn by fall, 4:24.

• Logan Nance, 152 pounds – Lost by fall to Joseph Gliatta of IC Catholic by fall, 1:35; lost to Ryan Rink of Tolono by decision, 7-5, in the second round of wrestlebacks.

• Eric McKinney, 160 pounds – Won by decision over Tyler Martinez of York Christian, 3-1; lost to Dax Gentes of El Paso/Gridley by decision, 3-1; won by decision over Jack Poyner of Coal City in second round of wrestlebacks; won by decision over Carter Watkins of Manteno, 9-3 in wrestlebacks quarterfinals; won by decision over Will Fox of Shelbyville, 6-3, in semifinal of wrestlebacks; lost to Martinez of York Christian, 3-1.

• Wyatt Dothager, 195 pounds – Lost to Walker Anderson of Sherrard by fall, 0:39; lost to Max Ryner of Macomb by fall, 2:49.
