Ross Stephen Myers, the son of Radford Stephen Myers and Grace Willabelle Hendon Myers, was born on March 8, 1938, in Waterloo, Iowa. In his youth the family moved to Collinsville where Ross attended the Collinsville public schools graduating from Collinsville high school in 1956. Ross then graduated from Greenville College in 1960 with a double major in chemistry and biology. Ross was the 3rd generation of his family to graduate from Greenville College and his grandson Christopher Myer is now the 5th generation to be enrolled in Greenville College. Ross then began his dual career path being an employee of Utlaut Memorial Hospital since before it opened and worked in the Laboratory for over 45 years retiring as Director of the Lab. Ross began his teaching career at Brownstown Elementary School in 1962 teaching 6th grade then moving on to Brownstown High School where he taught Chemistry, Biology, and Physics and retired as head of the Science Department after over 40 years. Ross worked part time in Dr. Max Frankael’s office in the Lab for many years. Ross went on to receive a Masters and Doctorate in Chemistry.

Ross and Jackie I. Chronister were united in marriage on March 28, 1983, at the First Christian Church in Nashville, IL. and have enjoyed almost 40 years together. Jackie has lovingly cared for Ross in these last difficult years. Jackie survives as do their three children: Christopher M. Myers of Charleston, SC, Theresa I (Daniel) Thum of Eden Prairie, MN, Elizabeth M. (Joseph) Hiott-Rule of Burnsville, NC. and their 11 grandchildren: Christopher, Jacob and Samantha Myers and Angel and Matthew Figueroa. Isabelle, Logan, Serafina and Micha Thum. Joselyn and Julianna Hiott-Rule.

Ross’s children remember their father as a loving caring generous man. He was always willing to give of his time and attention, not only to his children but to anyone who may need his help. He taught us the world was bigger than our small circle and we should venture out, get involved and help where we could. He afforded us many opportunities to travel and experience the world. He helped us make life decisions, gave us valuable advice gleaned from years of experience and allowed us to stumble along the way. Above all else we always knew Dad loved our mother, his children, and grandchildren.

Ross is the last of his generation, preceded in death by his grandparents Ross and Grace Smith Hendon, his parents Radford and Grace Willabelle Myers, and his brother in Infancy.

Ross was active in helping many get their continuing education in Lab recertification thru the ISCLT and was raised in the SmithGrove Baptist Church which his forefathers donated the land for and had been attending the Greenville First Christian Church.
