Robin Edward “Rob” Schukar, 68, of Vandalia, IL, passed away at 1:55 AM, Friday, August 12, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Chesterfield, MO.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 20, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church, Vandalia with Rev. Doug Wodtka officiating. Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00-11:00 AM, Saturday, August 20, 2022 at the church. Memorial donations may be made to Overcup Baptist Church, where Rob was a member or to Second Chance Animal Rescue. Online condolences can be expressed at

Robin Edward Schukar was born on February 23, 1954 in Vandalia, IL, the son of Orville L. “Sug” and Kathryn L “Katie” (Hobler) Schukar. He married Lisa Osborne on February 23, 2004; together they celebrated 18 years of marriage.

Rob worked for his dad at Sug’s Service, he then began his career in law enforcement and corrections. He was employed by the Vandalia Police Department for over a decade, then by IDOC, where he retired as a Captain from Vandalia Correctional Center in 2002. After his retirement, Rob, worked various security positions, was the Vandalia Lake Manager, and a Deputy Coroner for Fayette County.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa Schukar; daughter, Megan and husband Heath McDowell; sister, Judy and husband Bob Varga; grandson, Padric McDowell; granddaughter, Drew McDowell; mother-in-law, Rosalie and husband Robert Bone; all of Vandalia; and his canine companions, Lucy, Roadie, and Chloe.
Preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ronnie and Randy Schukar.
